Betty was surprised to recall that it's been more than 40 years since she joined the chorus - and no wonder, it's always a challenge to remember events from early childhood! Thank goodness her (clearly much older) sister told her how much fun chorus was early in life. The chorus has been blessed with her many talents and her company for a nice long time.
Betty sang that challenging baritone part for a long time, but is currently singing bass. She even directed the chorus for a couple of years! If you've ever had the pleasure of receiving comments from members of other choruses about how nice we look, thank Betty. She has spent a vast number of hours sewing and altering costumes that have made us the envy of other choruses. (I think Jean had a big role in that as well.) Betty and Jean have a long history of working together professionally, in the chorus, and in their quartet - Sterling Connection.
During her career Betty has worked as an accountant, and also for State Social Insurance. She also volunteered with the Early Childhood Development Center.
When she isn't singing ( or maybe even while she is! ) Betty also enjoys interior decorating, art, sewing, and coconut cream pie (I'm sure she only sings while baking it or ordering it, not while eating it...) Probably her 4 children and 9 grandchildren enjoy that pie as well! Her favorite colors are red and orange.
Betty's favorite thing about the chorus is the opportunity to sing and the camaraderie. Though it's hard to pick a favorite, Unchained Melody is her current top choice.
